Becoming Chief Executive
Becoming Chief Executive in a media business is not for the faint-hearted. Andrew Bethell describes how he gained the confidence, equilibrium and tools to deal with the challenges as they arose.
Before the coaching I had benefited from some other outside advice, but was sceptical of what the real benefits of coaching would be in a business context. I saw it has a significant expense for a small company and had my doubts as to whether it would deliver value for money.
And now? I feel the service offered by Neil has made a concrete contribution to my own well being and therefore to the quality of my leadership across the company, thereby delivering value for money. The main benefit was the support I received in taking over the Chief Executive post under stressful conditions and implementation of the subsequent re-structure. Neil helped steady my nerve and helped me to maintain my confidence whilst also advising on the best way to resolve the emotional pressures I felt myself to be under.
I have certainly retained a sense of confidence in my own role and abilities. Neil gave me a set of tools for dealing with the emotionally challenging pressures when they arise. Through this I believe I have managed to achieve a far better state of emotional equilibrium both within myself and within my colleagues.
This type of coaching is best suited to senior staff with significant levels of people management. And anyone who is trying to develop his/her leadership skills."
